Peggy Smith
Peggy was a Middlesex girl, an enchanting secretary/typist who worked in London.
She was the very essence of the ToCo girl-next-door − very pretty, very natural and great legs. She really does look like a reader’s wife or girlfriend flashing her knickers and striking her poses for a bit of naughty-but-nice fun, rather than a professional model doing it for the money.
Peggy is another of the many enigmas of ToCo, another example of a pretty, vivacious and natural girl who seemed to enjoy what she was doing – yet made only seven appearances. Six of them in the 21 months from April 1960 to January 1962 – and then, for some reason or another, not being seen again for 12 ½ years, when she popped up in Beautiful Britons 223 in June 1974. Why was her career so short? And why did picture editor Brewster resurrect her after so many years with just one single photo? This was only a couple of years before the company folded, so were they already getting desperate for models at that time? We shall never know.
This lovely girl was also seen in the SRA magazine Relate Vol 2 No 2 with more of the sequence of her dressed as a French maid seen in that ToCo revival of 1974. So there were more photos of her that ToCo did not publish.
