Speedy Book Service (SBS) – Sunderland
Speedy Book Services began publishing their very raunchy, all-photograph magazines in the late 1960s, continuing production into the early seventies. Those studying the glamour magazine business will know that this was a period of significant change in what was considered acceptable in magazine photos. At the end of the 1960s, a glimpse of pubic hair was enough to put a publisher in legal trouble, but by 1973, sexually explicit photo magazines could be found on newsstands throughout the country.
SBS magazines were produced throughout this period of transition and established a distinct house style. They published some of the sexiest material available within the limitations of the law at that time. Their focus was on lingerie, knickers, stockings, and suspenders, provocatively photographed, with an emphasis on sexy displays rather than arty glamour. While their models weren't always the most glamorous, they certainly didn't mind offering their charms in a most unambiguous way.
If you appreciate real rude girls in market-stall knickers, then you'll enjoy these magazines. However, if you aspire to seeing Playboy bunnies in Acapulco, I'm afraid you will be disappointed.
