Behind the Scenes

At London’s Folies Bergere

I was very privileged to be able to take my photographer, Harrison Marks, behind the scenes and in the dressing room of the Prince of Wales theatre. The glittering show is "Paris by Night". I was allowed to visit my old dressing room from the time when I used to be a showgirl at the Folies myself, and found some old friends there and many nostalgic memories from the past.

Here is a typical scene in the dressing room. Note the bottle of milk in place of the traditional magnum of champagne.

One of the most exciting stars in the most glamorous revue in town is Ilona Adams, who stops the show, twice nightly, with her act. She is seen here preparing to go on stage in her brief costume.

Here is Olivia, one of the medes, resting between scenes. Note the hot-water bottle for chilly weather.

Claudine Cereda, star of the show, captured by our camera at her dressing table.

Benny Hill chatting to his agent while he makes up for the evening performance.

Here I am with the star of the Folies Bergere, Benny Hill, who is showing me some of the wigs he wears for comedy characterisations.

This picture made me feel very overdressed. Les Girls are, left to right, Terry, myself, Marcelle and Vicky.

Vicky Lemmore in a typical Folies Bergere costume.

Vicky is an old friend of mine and we spent a long time chatting over old times, and the shows we had appeared in together.
