Folksy

Mad about folk music is TONI TOWNSEND.

And seen in the sylvan environment of a woodland glade, Toni looks very folksy herself. Actually, guys, she's an advertising assistant, and although they have nothing to do with her job, you might like to have nothing to do with her job, you might like to know her statistics are 37-23-37. She designs and makes her own clothes, she can play a guitar and she's just the kind of girl who makes us realise life is full of vivaciously pretty pictures.

The True Quality Of Rural Charm

Yes, very well, sit up and pay attention.

The true quality of rural charm lies in the absence of man-made pot-pourri like office blocks and bags of cement. Horses are all right, they fit in fine. So does grass. It's also pretty authentic if there are trees around and a bit of honeysuckle in the hedge adds a quality very true indeed.

A man in a car is out. So is a petrol lorry.

But TONI TOWNSEND is in. This lovely Hampshire housewife is corkingly rural because her charm is natural and unspoiled. Before she became a housewife Toni worked as an advertising assistant, and there was glass and concrete all round her.

Now she lives in the country and goes with the trees, the hedges, and the honeysuckle. Sort of lovely, like.

Design For Living

Down in the leafy, bowery woodlands of Hampshire you'll often go neck-over-croppers if you don't know your fences and you're not all that attached to your horse.

Do you hunt, then?

No, do you?

Not on a horse. I say, I saw the most larky bird at Aniseeda's Discotheque last Tuesday.

Yes, and when she found out what an unutterable nit you were she stuck you on the turntable and you went round and round and round, and everyone thought you were top of the pops. Now then, down in the leafy loveliness of Hampshire, where all is just as nature made it, there dwells a lovely maiden called TONI TOWNSEND.

Cor, you talk just like Bonnie Prince Charlie going after a date with Flora. That's our Scottish ancestry. Our modern heroine is Toni, she's an advertising assistant but her real design for living is designing. She's a natural at dress design, makes all her own clothes and looks so good in them she takes our minds right off the landscape.

I daresay, but this larky bird I was telling you about. Took one look at you and screamed the place down. She thought you were something from outer space. Why did she think that? Because you look as if you've just landed and are having trouble with the oxygen.

Becky Gold

There's Loyalty For You

Not only was Hampshire housewife BECKY GOLD determined to stick to her minis, but in an absolutely scintillating gesture of defiant loyalty she went around in her micro models.

With her long legs, her white boots and her cheeky knicks gallantly illustrating and advertising her loyalty, Becky gave all the fellers a fair old treat in her local high street.

Having spent a rotten time recently, in deep mourning for the departed mini, those fellers perked up no end when Becky glided in and out of the shops and wafted over the pavement.

"What a darling," said one feller.

"What an inspiration," said another, "why isn't she Prime Minister?"

Is This Arcadia ?

Arcadia, of course, is the place where all is joy and bliss, where everyone is beautiful, and the music is acceptable in the ears of all. They don’t have a Jimmy Young programme, mind you, but after you've been there a couple of hours you find you don't miss it a bit.

We thought we’d landed in Arcadia when our balloon came down in an uncharted area west of Poole in Dorset. Ensconced in a woodland glade and bedecked in filmy drapery was (we thought) the Queen of Arcadia herself. However, after she’d put her flute down, we found she was a Bournemouth housewife. Her name was TONI TOWNSEND but as far as we were concerned, she was better in our viewfinder than any Queen of Arcadia and her vitalistics of 37 - 23 - 37 proved it.

It Was, a Nice Day For The Anglers

There was a posse of men on bicycles heading for the river.

"He's gone thataway," called TONI TOWNSEND.

"Who has?" they asked.

"I don't know,” said Toni, "who is it you're after?" Then she emerged from the trees and as one man the posse fell off their bikes.

"What a nice day," said one, "you fellers ride on. I've gone off the trout for once."

A very natural reaction too. Who wants to spend all day fishing for trout when he could help Toni look for wild woodland flowers?

Gilding The Gingerbread

Advertising assistant TONI TOWNSEND is, of course, the girl we’d most like to get immersed in a marketing survey on a desert island with. If that sounds all mixed-up and disjointed, put it down to our natural aptitude for getting a buzz in our ears when confronted by an absolutely corking mini-dress. Toni is twenty-two, she designs and makes all her own clothes. We can’t help it, we still get the buzz. In fact, if she designs even lovelier outfits the buzz will turn into a roaring noise. A roaring noise is something that makes you fall off the top of a tall building. Your only hope is to bounce like a bad cheque and land in the lap of a ravishing advertising assistant.

Toni, by the way, is a Bournemouth girl, so if you're fond of the seaside trot down there on a summer’s day and you might find Toni in a bikini of her own design. We strictly feel that Toni is fundamentally eye-catching in any outfit. In outfits which bear the mark of her own inspiration she is gilding the gingerbread. Gilded gingerbread is too good to be true, but not in this case.
