Ann Grainger

Dolly Day Dreams

I’m a big fan of Ann Grainger and would even go as far as to place her in my 10 ten of ToCo girls. There’s no denying that she did some rather peculiar things with Fullarton behind the camera. If you examine these pictures closely, they certainly appear quite strange, with Ann crouching over a doll’s pram and raising her skirt for the doll, all orchestrated by Fullarton. Ann has a remarkable ability to look directly at the camera. It’s said that she emigrated to Canada, and based on my rough calculations, she would be around 82 years old now. Great pictures from one of my favourite ToCo models.

Three very popular ToCo lovelies. I'm not sure if this picture was ever used in a magazine without having to search through all my copies. If it wasn't, then it should have been. It has been taken from a contact sheet and is another nice contribution from tocofan.

Friends Frolicking in the Countryside

Friends Frolicking in the Countryside. These pictures are from sets that appeared in Spick No’s 116 & 117 (July and August 1963) and which were regurgitated for our enjoyment again in Spick & Span Extra No 55, Summer 1975.

These, of course, have been colourised; the jury is out as far as I am concerned, but definitely worth a showing. Many thanks for this contribution.

Sitting Around

Lots of people, especially old Herringbone, just make the place a shambles when they sit around. They're all feet and cigarette smoke. Ma Herringbone, who can stand smoke but hates feet, spends most of her time bashing his boots with her broom.

What a difference when ANN GRAINGER is the sitter. Bet you never have anything as ornamental as Ann on your carpet, and all those who would like to swap their model train sets for her are over-rating their trains something shocking.

Ann, well-known in her hometown for her trim figure and shapely legs and her volunteer work for old folk, is a very engaging Scottish housewife with the softest of accents. Sitting around she makes the prettiest picture of any domestic scene.
